Senior Broadcast Network Engineer – Live Sports
AbelCine is a full-service equipment and technology provider to the broadcast, production, and new media industries. We provide sales, finance, training, rental, and technical services to a professional customer base, with offices in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles.
We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Broadcast Network Engineer to provide on-site technical support for a major live professional sports venue in Inglewood, California.
This is a temporary, project-based engagement anticipated to run approximately September 10, 2026 through January 10, 2027, with the potential to extend into the playoffs if applicable.
Position Summary
This is a senior-level, hands-on engineering role supporting sophisticated broadcast and IT infrastructure in a live, high-stakes production environment. The engineer will work across Cisco, Evertz Magnum, Ross, and related broadcast systems, with a particular focus on IP-based broadcast networking and SMPTE ST 2110 workflows.
The ideal candidate combines deep enterprise networking expertise with experience in broadcast, media, or other mission-critical live environments. This individual must be comfortable troubleshooting complex systems in real time, collaborating closely with Broadcast and IT teams, and serving as a senior technical resource when reliability and response time are critical.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert-level support and troubleshooting for Cisco-based SMPTE ST 2110 broadcast networks and Evertz Magnum SDVN environments.
- Support Broadcast and IT teams across Cisco, Evertz Magnum, Ross, and related broadcast and network infrastructure.
- Engineer and troubleshoot large-scale Layer 2 and Layer 3 network environments utilizing routing, switching, multicast, QoS, VRFs, and network segmentation.
- Support SMPTE ST 2110 broadcast networking, including multicast routing, PTP timing, and low-latency media transport.
- Configure and troubleshoot multicast technologies, including IGMP, PIM Sparse Mode, SSM, and multicast boundary controls.
- Support Precision Time Protocol (PTP), IEEE 1588, and timing distribution for broadcast workflows.
- Support Cisco Catalyst, Nexus, UCS, Catalyst Center, Wireless LAN Controllers, and related infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, VLANs, STP, EtherChannel, QoS, VRFs, ACLs, and multicast networking.
- Monitor network health and proactively identify and resolve performance, reliability, and security issues.
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues during rehearsals and live events, including time-sensitive issues that may directly impact broadcast operations.
- Collaborate closely with Broadcast Engineering, IT, production teams, and other technical stakeholders.
- Evaluate emerging networking technologies and recommend improvements to performance, resiliency, and scalability.
- Provide technical support during scheduled preparation, rehearsal, and maintenance days as needed.
- Serve as a senior technical escalation resource and provide guidance to other technical team members when necessary.
Qualifications
- Senior-level experience supporting and troubleshooting complex IP network environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with Cisco Catalyst and Nexus switching platforms.
- Advanced knowledge of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking.
- Advanced understanding of routing and switching technologies, including OSPF, BGP, and EIGRP.
- Strong multicast networking knowledge, including PIM, IGMP, and related technologies.
- Experience with VLANs, STP, EtherChannel, QoS, VRFs, and ACLs.
- Experience supporting high-bandwidth, multicast-heavy, and/or low-latency network environments.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues under significant time pressure.
- Ability to work independently and serve as a senior technical escalation resource.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across Broadcast, IT, engineering, and production teams.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stakes live production environment.
- Ability to work on-site in Inglewood, California for scheduled events and support days.
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, early mornings, and late nights based on the event and production schedule.
Preferred Experience
Experience in several of the following areas is strongly preferred:
- SMPTE ST 2110 broadcast environments
- Evertz Magnum SDVN
- Precision Time Protocol (PTP) / IEEE 1588
- Ross broadcast infrastructure
- Cisco UCS, Catalyst Center, and Wireless LAN Controllers
- Live broadcast and media networking
- Professional sports, stadium, venue, or large-scale live event environments
- Mission-critical systems where network reliability directly impacts live video and audio delivery
- Direct experience supporting live sports broadcasts and other high-stakes live production environments
Engagement Details
- Project Dates: Approximately September 10, 2026 – January 10, 2027, with the potential to extend into the playoffs, if applicable
- Location: Inglewood, California – on-site
- Daily Rate: $1,250–$1,400 per 10-hour day, commensurate with experience and technical expertise
- The role will support scheduled professional sports events throughout the engagement.
- Additional preparation, rehearsal, and maintenance days may be scheduled as needed.
- Candidates must have flexibility to work the event schedule, including weekends, holidays, early mornings, and late nights.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged standing and walking during production and event support.
- Manual dexterity and mobility.
- Frequent reaching, bending, kneeling, and crouching as required for technical support.
- Ability to occasionally remove or replace supplies or equipment weighing up to 25 lbs. from locations at or above shoulder level.
- Ability to perform sitting and standing computer work requiring frequent use of computer monitors.
